Cochise County is considering adoption of updated building codes and related local amendments. Building codes establish minimum standards for how homes and commercial buildings are constructed, including requirements for safety, structural integrity, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical systems, and energy efficiency.
In addition to adopting updated model codes, the County develops local amendments to address local conditions and construction practices specific to Cochise County. These amendments help ensure the codes remain practical and appropriate for the community while maintaining public safety standards.
The Building Code Advisory and Appeals Board (BCAAB) has reviewed and recommended the proposed local amendments for consideration by the Board of Supervisors. The proposed amendments include updates related to wind resistance, permitting exemptions, residential and commercial construction standards, water conservation measures, electrical requirements, and other locally applicable provisions.
The proposed local amendments are now available for public review and comment. The County is seeking input on both the updated codes and the proposed amendments before they are considered for adoption in July.
