Cochise County is considering adoption of updated building codes and related local amendments. Building codes are sets of standards that guide how homes and commercial buildings are constructed, including requirements for safety, structural integrity, electrical systems, and energy efficiency. These codes help ensure buildings are safe, durable, and consistent with modern construction practices.
The proposed update includes the 2023 National Electrical Code, 2024 International Building Codes, and 2012 International Energy Conservation Code, along with local amendments tailored to Cochise County’s needs. Local amendments allow the County to address regional conditions such as climate, rural development patterns, and enforcement considerations.
The purpose of this update is to keep Cochise County current with industry standards, support safe and reliable construction, and maintain consistency with surrounding jurisdictions while preserving local flexibility where appropriate.
This survey is intended to gather public input before the proposed updates are considered for adoption in July, 2026. The survey will close on June 15, 2026.
